Our Shopping Trip to New York City

We just got back from the International Gift Show in New York. We had a great trip. The fall season at Blue Raccoon is going to be filled with fantastic finds, some of which are already starting to arrive! Yay!

We saw some amazing products. This semi-flush ceiling fixture by Oly is about 45" in diameter. Very impressive. We didn't buy it for the store, but I'm keeping it in mind for one of my design clients.

We visited our current vendors to see what's new. These are this seasons new S'well bottle colors. Aren't they beautiful? You know we had to get these...and so do you.

We found a new line of scented candles and liquid hand soap. (Guys are gonna love this line.) We are excited about this collection that's arriving in September. The sophisticated, herbal scents are designed to  enhance a room to make you want to linger just a bit longer. We also picked up cool weekend bags, tie clips, show horns and money clips, all from the same great company.

We placed a big order for new bags from Peg and Awl (a BR best seller). We think Margaux and Walter Kent are so creative. They and their team of craftspeople make everything by hand in their studio in Philadelphia using waxed recycled canvas, rope and WWII era gun slings. You can see the straps of one of their Croaker Sacks on my shoulder. I use it pretty much every day.

We just received our order of Chilewich floor mats and placemats that Nick ordered at the Atlanta Gift Show. Our BR in-store display is being set up this week. At the NYC Gift Show I was able to peruse the whole line and acquaint myself with the vast collection of designs. It was absolutely overwhelming...they had so many great colors, patterns and textures. Come see 'em!

On top of everything else on our busy agenda, Nick was invited by the editor of Home Accents Today, a leading industry trade publication, to participate on a panel with 2 other independent retailers to talk about: "From Brick and Mortar to Click and Order". There were about 55 audience members who listened as we shared our own personal experiences with selling our wares online. Over the course of an hour, there were many good stories and questions. Everyone came away impressed...

Our 4 days at the show wasn't all work...(Dirty Martini, yes, please)...

...in fact, we also found time to see a show on Broadway. It was fantastic even without President Obama, Malia and Sasha in the audience. We highly recommend this Hamilton.

After 3 days, the curtain came down on our summer buying trip. We arrived back at the store to get back to the business of opening boxes, stocking shelves and mapping out where all of our specially chosen gifts and home accessories are going to go. Wait until you see it all. We think you'll be happy. Like the song is named, it will be an Autumn Serenade at Blue Raccoon.
