We recently received some pieces from The Love Series by local artist and friend, William A. Sloan. Bill has enjoyed a long career as an award-winning independent and commercial artist in New York and presently splits his time between Manhattan and Bucks County, PA. The works in The Love Series are one-of-a-kind hearts collaged from an eclectic collection of vintage paper. We’ve carried a wide variety of Bill’s work for nearly ten years at Blue Raccoon and are happy to have these latest pieces on hand in time for Valentine’s Day.
Below, Bill on Blue Raccoon and The Love Series:
I’ve been creating images for Blue Raccoon for years now. Much fun. I love the store and the aesthetic and enjoy being a part of the story. The heart images came about when I was going through a collection of handmade papers in my studio – Florentine end papers and hand-made Japanese fabric papers mostly. I like the way they work together and still have personalities all their own. Valentine’s Day is coming up, and love is always in season, so hearts seemed like a nice starting point for bringing these different personalities together into collaborative, balanced unions all their own. Two halves make a whole, as the saying goes, and combining the simplicity of that direction with the Marriage Equality emblem of the equals sign felt right. The addition of the hand-written phrases beneath the images adds to the personal, hand-done characteristics of the collages, and reinforces the many different faces of love. Love isn’t something you find. Love is something that finds you.
The Love Series images are matted and framed and available in two sizes: large, 17 1/8″ x 21 1/8″ ($149.95) and small, 10 5/8″ x 10 5/8″ ($49.95).
